This weeks Hall of Famer is non other than Lou Gehrig! Henry Louis Gehrig was an American professional baseball first baseman who played 17 seasons in Major league baseball for the New York Yankees. I think most of you actually might already know who he is. He was an all-star seven consecutive times, a Triple Crown winner once, an American league most valuable player twice, and a member of six World Series champion teams. He hit 493 homeruns and had 1995 runs battled in. He has the highest ratio of runs scored plus battled in 100 plate appearances per 100 games among Hall of Fame players. He was elected to the baseball Hall of Fame in 1939. And was also a native student at Columbia University. He signed with the Yankees on April 29, 1923. And he went on to set several major league records during his career. Unfortunately his greatness on the field was abruptly taken away by amyotrophic lateral sclerosis otherwise known as “Lou Gehrig disease”. This disease made him to retire at age 36, he then dies about a year later June 2nd 1941! I hate that! I feel like he had so much more to give us in baseball ⚾️!
